Making a guest appearance are several hundred peeping frogs who were chirping the night away in Pahao, Hawaii at Butterfly Acres.

  1. Brian Hulse says:

This is amazing! The story of how Waldo and Woodhead met is so cool… this whole thing is cool… the history of our tribe!

Thank you for this… I look forward to more!

  2. Brian Hulse says:

I went to New Orleans in 1988, after the Buskerfest in Key West… I met Lee Ross there who took me under his wing and taught me so much… that meeting led to many things that had major influences on where I am today…

Jackson Square was a definite power-center for me!

  3. Jim says:

This web site and concept is what’s been missing from the internet! This needs to continue. I want to hear more, more, more… And I want this to evolve into a video podcast. I can’t tell you how important this is! Keep going.

  4. Jim says:

Hey… The Full Tawny routine was me, F-ing Bob, Jon Park, Gleno Singer and Tawny in the Waterloo Late Show, 1998… Jon Park has the video. I’ve still never seen it, but it was probably one of my most memorable performing experiences. I remember that being a record breaking hat for the festival. And I remember Tawny having to be interviewed by the police. Good times.

  5. Glenn Singer says:

I just heard the first interview and I loved it. More Busker history please! My first thought was: is this as interesting to anybody else? Well there are a lot of Street Performers Festivals around the world and lots of people go to them. They’d probably all be interested.

I remember walking in a thick crowd at Halifax in 88 down on the waterfront. It was there in the Historic Properties right where it bottlenecks and the crowd slows to a crawl moving on after a bunch of shows had ended. As I inch forward I look ahead and there’s this strange looking guy in a satin jesters costume. (I was probably in whiteface at the time but most likely not thinking about that). I’m getting closer to the guy and not really aware that I’m staring at him. As we got nearer one another I’m sure I looked away so as not to call attention to myself. Just as we passed I couldn’t resist stealing another glance, at which point he suddenly turned his face right into mine and yelled: ‘What the f__ are you looking at? That was the first time I ever saw The Butterfly Man.

  6. Todd Strong says:

    Good stuff. Good, good stuff.

    Not too stuffy. Good.

Please, may I have some more?

  7. martin ewen says:

Thanks David. I have always had a feeling that recounting these experiences, because they are so out of the ordinary, might be an entertainment in of itself. I hope you continue and I hope they gain traction.

  8. Toni Smith says:

Good job David – I can’t wait to hear more stories from other legendary street performers. We’ve all heard of these guys, even if we haven’t met them yet. (I nearly met The Butterfly Man during this podcast but barely managed to suppress the urge to crane my neck in front of the camera – you promised me another time! Oh well).

I’m so glad this is happening so future generations of buskers can hear the good old stories straight from the old horses mouths and I say ‘old’ with the utmost fondness and respect… Keep up the good work.

  9. Little Joe says:

    Oh my good gravy.
    Christmas!
    Thank you, David.
    Sooooooooooo important.
What a relief. I was scared nobody would do it.
    More!

  10. Nick Broad says:

Love the idea. I hope it goes viral amongst the community. How are you getting everyone together — skype?

    • checkerhead says:

      Nick,

Thanks for the comment… How did you find the site? Just curious as I haven’t really told too many people about it yet… We’re trying to get a few Podcasts up and running before really announcing it to the world…

The interviews to date have been done via Skype and/or live… Working to make the sound quality better and we’re aiming to release one interview a week or so…

Had no awareness of “The Busking Project” before you posted… We should definitely link the sites so that people who find one can find the other… Yes? Let me know how you’d like to do it and I’ll be happy to set up some sort of cross reference…

Oh… And I checked out the site and didn’t see any performers listed from Vancouver, BC, Canada where I’m from. We’ve got a pretty great busking scene with a ton of full time performers… Need to remedy the fact that there aren’t any listed on your site yet…

If you want to start a dialogue, feel free to drop me a line via my regular email address at: cbg@checkerhead.com

      Cheers,

      David Aiken
